Power on the virtual machine to start the installation of freenas.Select Option 1 to start the installation. Click on Yes to start the installation Click SpaceBar to select the hard drive and press tab to select OK Create the password for root after clicking yes on proceed with the installation.

Select the version, and architecture you intend to install from the download page then download the img.xz file. Download the img.xz file. Extract the image file from the archive. Before the image file can be loaded on a USB drive it must be decompressed to your hard drive. I recommend using 7-Zip to extract the file, it’s free and works well.
To set up a FreeNAS operating system, you will need to download latest stable installation ISO Image (i.e. Version 9.2.1.8) from the FreeNAS download page, or you can use the following links to download image for your system architecture. I’ve included download links for CD/DVD and USB bootable images of FreeNAS, so select and download images.
